Students interrogated the CULTURAL TEXTS that they have inherited through a PALIMPSESTIC design investigation. Through this investigation, students challenged notions of TYPOGRAPHIC design and OWNERSHIP. The PALIMPSESTS were created using “words of wisdom” or CULTURAL TEXTS that have been passed down to students by the adults in their lives and images that related to those CULTURAL TEXTS. Groups of 5-6 students collaborated on each PALIMPSEST. The resulting artifacts are exciting visual articulations of legacy and community.
Students explored the cultural spaces that they interact with and in on a daily basis. Through the creation of personal cultural landscapes, students examined the role of cultural spaces within their own lives and in society at large, with a focus on the transformative nature of the absence of individuals in these environments.
